Sources Research Thrust Strategic Goals:

  • High efficiency at any wavelength
  • Fast switching at high efficiency
  • Polarized light at any wavelength

The Sources Research Thrust concentrates on advancements in solid state light source technology necessary for smart lighting implementation. The ERC exploration of LEDs and phosphor fundamentals address parameters such as polarization, wavelength, intensity, light generation, and absorption in the development of progressive source concepts and technologies for solid state lighting applications. Optoelectronic integration research addresses the high speed and high efficiency power requirements for integrating LEDs in smart lighting systems. The Sources research thrust efforts focus on the development of solid state light source technology that can translate to system level performance to achieve the thrust's strategic goals and provide low cost, energy efficient, healthy lighting systems.
