Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
May 29 - August 3, 2012
Host Site: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
The SMART LIGHTING ENGINEERING RESEARCH CENTER is an integrated research, education, and technology transfer organization that will revolutionize lighting by creating the technology needed to yield unparalleled benefits in human health and safety, high speed information access and energy conservation.
Each summer the ERC supports a 10-week research program for visiting undergraduate researchers called Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). Each participant in the program becomes a member of one of the research groups within the Smart Lighting ERC. Participants attend research group meetings to get an overall view of their own project and how it fits into the goals of the group. In addition to research group meetings, participants are asked to attend weekly REU seminars, field trips, and lab tours. This gives them a chance to interact with participants in other Rensselaer campus REU programs. Midway through the program, each participant presents a 10-minute oral progress report and a written progress report. During the last week of the program, each participant presents at a REU Symposium and prepares a final written report based on his or her research accomplishments during the summer. Participants have full use of institute, departmental, and group facilities, including libraries, computer facilities, shops, recreational and sports facilities, and so on.
More information on specific projects will follow. Please check back at our website on December 12, 2011.
